Zac Efron doesn’t want to be that guy

If you were wondering why Zac Efron pulled out of the lead in the Footloose remake, the 1984 hit film that shot Kevin Bacon to fame, its because he didn’t want to be typecast as ‘that musical guy’.

He said: “I’m sure Footloose would have been a huge challenge…but the actors that I love and the actors that work really hard in this industry are always shaking things up, trying new genres, acquiring new skill sets. That’s what’s always going to appeal to me: the unknown.”

Gossip Girl hottie Chace Crawford and singer Jesse McCartney are rumoured to be stepping into Efron’s shoes.

The High School Musical star has decided instead to flex his acting muscles in film drama The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud an adaption of Ben Sherwod’s novel.

I highly doubt Zac’s involvement in the Footloose remake would have typecast him, he appears to be a versatile actor and Ren McCormak was the role Efron was born to play.

But I can see his point, bravo to the lad for making a bold career move.
