Miley Cyrus is saying goodbye to Hannah Montana

Looks like the party in the USA is drawing to a close for Hannah Montana.

Miley Cyrus is set to shake off the alter ego that skyrocketed her to fame, with reps for Disney confirming production for the hit series will be its last after its fourth season.

Disney Channel Worldwide’s senior VP/programming, Adam Bonnett, said: “You never know in this business . . . but right now we’re scheduled to wrap [forever] after shooting this new batch of episodes,”

But Montana fans shouldn’t be too despondent just yet, he added: “The [new] episodes will continue to roll out at least over a full year.”

The show, which premiered in 2006, follows the title character as she tries to lead a double life as pop star Hannah Montana and a normal teenager, Miley Stewart. Season four’s plot seem to mirror the actresses real-life growing pains, “It’s one of the things she’s been wrestling with for months — whether it’s time to make a decision to continue being Hannah Montana or just be a regular, ordinary girl.” Bonnet added.

The 17-year-old, who appears on the February cover of Harper’s Bazaar, revealed her desire to seek out mature roles, she said: “I want to do edgier movies — movies where you walk away feeling fulfilled.”

So, not only will we be privy to Miley’s transition into adulthood (Britney Spears anyone?), we also have no doubt Disney is already scouting the deep south for a new queen to reign over the tweens, ready to generate fresh bouts of controversy. It really is the Best of Both Worlds. Huzzah!
