Cheryl Cole: I lost my virginity at 15
She’s never been once to mince her words, that Cheryl Cole.
In an interview with Glamour magazine, the Girls Aloud singer and X-Factor judge is frank as ever. Revealing the age of her first sexual encounter, how constant gossip has put a strain on her marriage, why she’s been spotted sans wedding ring, her regret at bad-mouthing fellow WAG Victoria Beckham and why there’s no love lost where Lily Allen is concerned.
On losing her virginity: “I was 15 when I lost my virginity, but I made my boyfriend wait three months, so I am really proud of myself for that. The thought of being intimate with someone you don’t know really freaks me out. I think men should earn that intimacy. Before I met Ashley, I had only had three long-term relationships. I have quite an old-fashioned mentality and like the fact that by the time I am 33, Ashley and I will have been married for 10 years.”
On marriage rumours taking their toll: “He [Ashley] broke down about it all. He called me from the garage and said, ‘I feel sick. I’m on the cover of every magazine because apparently I’ve made you cry.’ My family love Ashley but even people really close to me are starting to believe that there’s a rift between us.”
On public appearances minus her wedding ring: “Do people really think I’m going to have an argument and take my ring off? It was a fashion statement more than a marriage statement. As my wedding ring is yellow it doesn’t go with everything.”
On speaking negatively about Victoria Beckham: “I have a lot of respect for Victoria but I said something I shouldn’t have done once – when I was asked whether it was true Victoria had been telling me how to wear my hair after everything had happened with Ashley. Like I’d give a shit what my hair looked like during that time. So I retaliated by saying I hadn’t heard from her.”
On arch-nemesis Lily Allen: “I met Lily for the first time last week, gave her a hug and she said, ‘There is no beef.’ Then I heard she was taking the piss and I thought, ‘She’s a little girl.’ I’m a 26-year-old woman and I’m not at school any more.”
The most shocking part of this is, she actually believes her marriage will last into her thirties. I give it 10 months… OK, OK, 8 months, curse my optimistic nature…
